Remember with care.
Heal with intention.

Yashodhara, integrative therapist and founder of Smara Therapy,

Hi, I'm Yashodhara - but you can call me Yasho

I’m a certified counsellor for young people, and my therapeutic model is integrative—drawing from person-centred therapy (PCT), attachment therapy (AT), and interpersonal neurobiology (IPNB). I specialize in supporting children, adolescents and adults through talk therapy, play, and art-based interventions.

I am registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) as a Registered Member (MBACP) and follow their ethical guidelines in my work.

Person Centered Therapy

You lead. I walk beside you.

Attachment Therapy

Let’s trace how connection—or disconnection—shaped your instincts.

Interpersonal Neurobiology

Your nervous system has a memory. But also… flexibility.

Smarā means “to remember”—to return to the places within us that shaped how we love, how we fear, how we grow. Memories aren’t just stories we tell; they live in the body, in the nervous system, in the quiet, intricate wiring of our brains. Early relationships become blueprints—maps we follow long after we’ve outgrown them, internalized at a time when we couldn’t verbalize our needs. Over time, those maps can become tangled webs.

They show up in our reactions at work, our relationships (with ourselves and others), and our sense of self. But the brain—remarkable in its design—is not static. Through safety, connection, and reflection, it can be rewired. This is the magic of neuroplasticity.

We can rework what once felt unchangeable. Healing begins with noticing—with gently turning toward what’s been carried. This space exists to help you do just that.

At its core, therapy is an act of remembering—with care, with curiosity, and with the courage to just begin. In the rush of daily life, it’s easy to lose touch with who we are, how we got here, and what we need to feel whole. Smara Therapy offers a cozy pause—a space to reflect, reconnect, and rewrite your story.

With warmth. With honesty. With a belief that who you are becoming is still unfolding.

We work using:

Art-Based Therapy

Some things are easier to feel through colour, texture, and shape. Show me what safety looks like in colour, not just words.

Play Therapy

Big feelings sometimes need small games.

Narrative Therapy

What would your story say if you held the pen? What stories were written about you—and which ones do you want to rewrite?

Polyvagal Therapy

Fight, flight, freeze—your body has a playlist. Let’s tune in.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Maybe the anxious part isn’t you—just a protector who showed up early.

Trauma-Informed Therapy

We go at your pace. Safety first. Always.

Real Stories of Transformation and Recovery

Nov 2024

Yasho was always super helpful and considerate of my mental health whenever we worked together. She was always ready to work with me through something if I was going through it. I really appreciated all the care, insight, and honesty that was put into our time together. She's super kind and supportive, 10/10 recommend!

Working with Yasho helped me be more introspective and learn more about my goals and priorities. In the brief time we worked together, she inspired me to put myself out there and not be afraid of experiencing new things.

Now, I play the cello, do research and work two jobs while serving on two governance committees at a prestigious liberal arts institution, and none of this would be possible without having her as a guide and confidante during my last two years of school.

My time with YK is at the very least, very fruitful. Just reflecting back to college applications, I did not end up getting into my dream school; however, YK helped me understand the true meaning of the phrase “everything happens for a reason”, and I was pleased to discover the truth in her hypothesis through my lived experience
